Mediation Seminar

From 2nd-5th of August 2018

Mediation is a negotiation (or: proceeding) assisted and structured by a neutral third party —the mediator. Conflicts can thus be resolved within a few hours (1 hour in the case of conflicts in the initial stage up to 8 hours or more for conflicts that have reached a high level of escalation), and can lead to a sustainable solution because it has been developed by the conflict participants themselves.

Objectives of the seminar:

  • Arrive at a better understanding of conflicts and being able to classify them
  • Know the characteristics of a good mediation
  • Use mediation techniques in negotiations and discussions
  • Communicate more consciously and perceive conflicts in a differentiated manner
  • De-escalate conflicts at a low level of conflict

  • Structure / Procedure of Mediation (Negotiation Theory)
  • Inner attitude of a mediator: empathy and dissociation at the same time
  • Basics of conflicts (9 stages of conflict, neurobiology, psychology)
  • Distinction between positions and interests
  • Core techniques of the mediator (Paraphrasing, Active Listening, Questions)
  • Many exercises in small groups
