Dear friends of Goloka Dhama!

The Beautiful Reappearance of Our Beloved Deities

This August marked a special milestone for our community. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of the installation of Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan, who have made Their home with us in Goloka Dhama for the last twenty-five years. After the festival, we finally undertook a long-desired service: restoring and repainting Their Divine forms as an offering of gratitude for Their golden jubilee.

Over the years many devotees have cared for Radha Madan Mohan with great affection, occasionally refreshing Their paint when needed. With each touch-up, a little more paint accumulated and the time came to refresh Their gentle lines and subtle expression. This year’s restoration became not just a renewal of colour, but almost a rediscovery of Their timeless charm.

We were fortunate to welcome Taralaksi Mataji from Hungary for this service – a devoted disciple of HH Sivarama Maharaja and an accomplished artist with more than three decades of experience painting and restoring Deities around the world. Her artwork adorns the Hungarian farm and many of Maharaja’s books, and now she has shared her talent with us as well. For three and a half weeks she worked quietly and steadily, praying as she painted. It was far more than a technical project; it felt as though the Deities were guiding her hand. Through her care, Their original, radiant beauty appeared again – fresh, youthful, and deeply enchanting.

Along with Radha Madan Mohan, Chota Radha and Krishna, Gaura Nitai, Giriraj, and even the two altar cows were lovingly renewed. Every corner of the altar seemed to gain new life.

As the work neared completion, the whole community grew eager to see the outcome. Their reappearance on the altar for Govardhan-puja was unforgettable. When the curtains opened, the temple room filled instantly with song and joy. Many devotees were visibly moved, some with tears in their eyes, some simply beaming, and some even wrote poems in Their honour – spontaneous outpouring of affection and gratitude.

For a temple community, the Deities truly are the heart around which everything revolves. Seeing Them restored so beautifully renewed everyone’s connection and seemed to lift the spiritual atmosphere of the whole temple.

This restoration reminded us of a simple truth: when we offer service with love, the Lord reveals Himself again and again – always fresh and always merciful. What took place was much more than the refreshing of paint; it was a renewal of devotion.

As we enter a new year, we pray that Their renewed beauty inspires us to renew our own hearts – with steadiness, sincerity, and the confidence that loving service makes everything shine anew.

Your servant on behalf of Goloka Dhama, Nitya Kisori devi dasi

“One can easily please the Lord by devotional service offered to His Deity form. By pleasing the Lord one can gradually progress in the mission of human life and eventually go back home, back to Godhead, where the Deity personally appears before the devotee and welcomes the devotee to His personal abode, known throughout the world as the kingdom of God.”
